Midsummer thoughts

It's the doldrums of the summer - where the only thing on TV is baseball and the only thing I like to watch that is on is NASCAR! So the Women's World Cup is a nice change! Watching the game today between the US and Brazil was exciting, and a truly inspiring game that had all the intrigue you would want. That beautiful crossing pass by Rapinoe to the game-tying header by Wambach was great!!! Somehow, soccer is growing on me...even though I still definitely am biased towards the true football - American style! But if I have to wait until the fall for those games, soccer is almost proving more enjoyable to watch than baseball!

As far as NASCAR - it's been a really good, intriguing season. One thing I would not have wanted last night, though was to sit in that traffic going to the race in Kentucky! It was snarled up for hours and hours, and then I heard that people got turned away after finally making it to the track because there was no more parking available. That is awful!!! There better be some sort of recompense for that...shelling out the bucks for the inaugural Sprint Cup event, then not even having a place to park? That is just bad.

But, I guess it is all just a business, just like the NFL. In all these things, fans are not more than income generators. Perhaps they are...but seeing some loyalty and responsibility in these areas to your customers is hopefully found. The NFL lockout continues to be a case in point on how when money drives things, you can never have enough. The NBA is now locked out as well, and we are just in an era where the rich want to get richer...on all sides, at the expense of the fan. We, the fans, do need to step up and just not give in. Let them have empty stadiums and less apparel sales. If you are a fan of the sport, go watch the lower levels of that sport! It's what I am considering...NCAA and high school football games this fall. See the up and coming stars at lower level racing series, or even just stay at home and watch on tv. Keep the money and have a party with others...that is waht I'm leaning towards: tailgating at the house, rather than a stadium!
